# Wrap

> Wrap means the end of work. On a given day, camera wrap is when the last shot is done and departments begin packing up; each person then has their own wrap-out time. It also names the end of an actor's role or of the whole shoot, as in series wrap or picture wrap.

## Different wraps, different times

A single day produces several wrap times. From a fictional day 6:

The 2nd AD records these and the [daily production report](https://storiara.com/glossary/daily-production-report) prints them. Each group's [turnaround](https://storiara.com/glossary/turnaround) runs from their own out time. If electric is out at 9:00P and needs 10 hours, their earliest call is 7:00A, which might be later than the camera department's.

## Leading up to it

The last two shots of the day have names. The second-to-last is the [Abby Singer shot](https://storiara.com/glossary/abby-singer), called so departments can start packing what they won't need. The last is the [martini shot](https://storiara.com/glossary/martini-shot). When the martini is done and checked, the 1st AD calls "That's a wrap" on the walkie and on set.

Before calling it, the AD confirms with the script supervisor that no scheduled scene is incomplete and with the DIT or 2nd AC that media is secure. Many shows also do a quick check for tomorrow's first scene so gear can be left pre-rigged.

## Other kinds of wrap

An actor wraps when they shoot their last scene. The AD announces "That's a picture wrap on Rosie" and the crew applauds; the [day out of days](https://storiara.com/glossary/day-out-of-days) marks WF. A location wraps when the company won't return. ## Mistakes around wrap

Calling wrap before the last setup is checked leads to reshoots at a cost. Another common problem is recording only camera wrap on the production report, then calculating everyone's rest from it. That understates overtime and hides rest violations for departments that stayed late. Log out times by department, and give cast their actual dismissal time on the Exhibit G.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between camera wrap and crew wrap?

Camera wrap is when the last shot finishes. Crew wrap comes later for each department, after gear is struck and loaded. Electric and grip can be out 30 minutes to well over an hour after camera wrap depending on the rig.

### Who calls wrap on set?

The 1st AD, after the director is happy with the last shot and the script supervisor and camera confirm there's nothing missing.

### What does 'that's a wrap on Maya' mean?
