How to add comments to locations, assets, and gear

Leave comments on locations, characters, props, wardrobe, effects, and equipment in Storiara so collaborators can discuss an item right where it lives.

Comments keep the conversation about a thing attached to that thing. The question about whether the diner's owner will let you run cable through the kitchen lives on the diner's location card, not in a text thread nobody can find in prep week four.

Where you can comment

The speech-bubble icon (Comments) appears on:

  • locations on the Locations page
  • characters on the Cast & Crew page
  • props, wardrobe, vehicles and animals, and makeup and hair on Assets
  • items on Music & Effects
  • gear on Equipment

Scenes, schedule strips, and call sheets don't have comment threads.

Steps

  1. Open the page and find the item, for example the location "Rosie's Diner".
  2. Click the Comments icon on its card.
  3. The dialog opens as Comments: Rosie's Diner. Earlier comments show the author's name, their role on the story, and how long ago they posted.
  4. Type in Write a comment....
  5. Press Enter to post. Use Shift+Enter for a line break inside a comment.
  6. To sign off on something quickly, click Approve Suggestion, which fills in "Approved!", then press Enter.

Comments appear for other collaborators as they're posted, without a reload.

Making threads useful

Write comments someone can act on without asking a follow-up: "Owner OK with cable through kitchen door, not the front. Needs a PA on the door during service, 11 AM to 2 PM." Use Approve Suggestion when a department head asks for a decision, so the answer is visible to anyone who opens the item later. For work that needs an owner and a due date, add it to the shared to-do list instead.

If it doesn't work

  • No Comments icon: you may be on a page without comments, or your role doesn't include that page. See collaborator roles.
  • "Error sending comment" usually means a dropped connection. Check it and press Enter again.
  • "Error loading comments" means the live comment feed couldn't connect. Close the dialog and reopen it.

The Locations guide and Assets guide show where the icon sits on each card.
