How to print breakdown sheets

Print a color-coded breakdown sheet for one scene or every scene from Storiara's Script & Breakdown View, or save the sheets as a PDF to share.

Storiara lays out a standard breakdown sheet for each scene from the scene data and everything tagged to it. You print from the browser, which also lets you save a PDF.

What's on the sheet

The header carries Breakdown Sheet #, Page Count, Date, Prod. Company, Project Title, Scene #, Scene Name, INT/EXT, D/N, Script Page, Location Name, and Description. Below it are boxes that follow the usual color codes: CAST (yellow), STUNTS (red), EXTRAS/SILENT (amber), EXTRAS/ATMOSPHERE (lime), PROPS (purple), WARDROBE (pink), MAKEUP/HAIR (teal), VEHICLE / ANIMALS (orange), VISUAL FX (sky blue), SOUND FX (indigo), MUSIC (violet), SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, and PRODUCTION NOTES. Empty boxes print "None". Each sheet is followed by a cast list page and a color legend.

Steps

  1. Select the story and open Script & Breakdown View from the right edge of the screen.
  2. Click the Breakdown tab. It stays disabled until the story has scenes.
  3. Pick a scene from the Select Scene menu. Entries read like "Sc. 14: Rosie's Diner".
  4. Fill in anything you want on paper. You can type the Prod. Company and the production notes directly on the sheet, and they save to the story.
  5. Click the printer icon (Print Options).
  6. Choose Just this scene for one sheet or All scenes (combined) for the whole script.
  7. In the browser's print dialog, pick a printer or choose Save as PDF. The sheets are laid out for US Letter.

Printing the script itself

On the Script tab, the same printer icon offers Marked Up Version, which prints the pages with your highlights, and Original Version, the file as uploaded. A marked-up print is a quick stand-in for a lined script when departments want to see what was tagged.

If it doesn't work

  • If the Breakdown tab is greyed out, scenes haven't finished pulling. Check the Scenes page.
  • A blank Page Count or Script Page means the page positions haven't been measured yet. Switch to the Script tab so the PDF loads, then come back.
  • All scenes (combined) on a long script produces a big print job, since each scene brings its extra pages. Save as PDF first and print the pages you need.
