How to create a TV show and add episodes
Create a show in Storiara that holds one budget, one schedule and one team, add each episode with its own script, and cross-board the episodes together.
A series is one production with many scripts. In Storiara a show is a container: it holds one budget, one schedule, and the cast, crew, locations, characters, call sheets, and team that every episode shares. Each episode sits inside the show and holds its own script and scenes.
Create the show
- Open Projects at the top of the sidebar.
- Click New show. The button appears once you have at least one project you can edit.
- Type the Show name, for example "Harbor Lights", and click Create show.
- The new-episode screen opens straight away so you can add the first episode.
Add an episode
Adding an episode is the same flow as creating a new project.
- On Projects, find the show's heading and open its three-dot menu, then choose New episode. An empty show has a New episode button under its name.
- The screen is titled "New episode of" and the show name. Upload the episode's script, or start it unscripted.
- Click Analyze, then check the title and tags. Genre is optional for an episode.
- Approve. The breakdown runs just as it does for a film, and a message confirms the episode was added with its number.
Episodes are numbered in the order you add them and coded with a leading 1, so episode 1 is 101 and episode 12 is 112.
Find your way around a show
On Projects, a show is a collapsible group with its episodes listed under it. Open show selects the show itself, and clicking an episode selects that episode. Which one you select changes what the pages show:
- Scenes and Shot list belong to an episode. With the show selected, they ask you to pick an episode.
- Schedule, Budget, Cast & crew, Locations, Call sheets, and the other planning pages belong to the show. They open once any episode has scenes. With an episode selected they still work, and the sidebar shows "Show:" and the show's name so you know whose data you are in.
- On the characters list in Cast & crew, on Assets, and on Locations, a This episode only switch narrows the show's lists to the episode you have selected.
Cross-board the schedule
The show has one stripboard. Strips are labelled with the episode code and scene number, such as "101-12", with a coloured dot per episode. Open the board from an episode and you see the whole show's schedule: your episode's strips as usual and the other episodes' strips faded. Faded strips can still be dragged. The Episodes switch above the board changes between All episodes and Only this episode.
A shoot day can hold scenes from several episodes, and that day's call sheet lists all of them.
One budget, by episode
The show's budget has a group for each episode, named like "EP 101". A line in an episode's group belongs to that episode, and a line in no episode group is a shared cost. The Episode Totals Report under Movie Magic reports... gives each episode its own lines plus an equal share of the shared ones. See the Budget guide.
One team
You share the show once. Everyone you add to the show has the same role on every episode, and removing someone removes them from all of them. See how to invite collaborators.
Rename or delete
The show's three-dot menu has Rename show, and for the owner Delete show, which deletes the show and every episode in it.
If it doesn't work
- No New show button: you have no project you can edit yet. Create one first.
- No New episode in the menu: your role on the show can't edit it.
- Planning pages are locked on a new show: add an episode and let its scenes come in.
- An existing standalone project can't be moved into a show. Create the episode inside the show and upload the script there.
The My Stories guide covers the Projects page, and block shooting vs cross-boarding explains the scheduling choice.
